Heartlight review

Amazing fun! Another reason to love capitalism - this little gemball is 99 cents at the Apple store, for iOS. Addictive and great --

The Shining review

The scariest movie ever. The mood that Kubrick creates with the music selection, cinematography, and Nicholson's nuanced descent into mental isolation and insanity is so chilling and disturbing it's beyond words.

The Fugitive review

Posted : 12 years, 12 months ago on 2 April 2011 12:23 (A review of The Fugitive)

One of the best action-thrillers ever made - Tommy Lee Jones and Harrison Ford put in unforgettable performances (especially Jones) and all the characters are memorable and deep in their own way. Wonderful film.

Death Wish 2 review

Posted : 13 years ago on 24 March 2011 06:33 (A review of Death Wish 2)

This is the film that introduced to the dark, mysterious, and beautiful world of low-budget exploitation/action/horror films when I first saw a chunk of it in November 2004 on AMC. Dark, eerie, slimy, and with a fantasticly 80s soundtrack and fantasticly 80s set of thugs, this film is a classic.

It's also the film that introduced me to my cinema hero Charles Bronson. The whole series is awesome, and each film has a very distinct and different feel, from the early 70s urban jungle of DW1, the early-80s and evil-feeling DW2, the still-bleak feel of DW3, the very different feel of DW4, to the low-budget 90s mobster feel of DW5.

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer review

Posted : 13 years ago on 13 March 2011 07:28 (A review of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer)

Utterly disturbing masterpiece. The horror in this one comes from the fact that it feels utterly real.

Even more disturbing than the violence and heartlessness of Henry is the increasing desensitization to killing that Otis transitions through. I've had nightmares about that and this film. Absolute masterpiece.
